Year 3
Year 2
Set Capture and VFX Simulation
Our last module for my second year at Solent University was a joint assignment that encompassed learning about Set Capture techniques and VFX Simulation. This meant we had to film our own footage and use the different tools that VFX artists use to be more efficient in post-production. For VFX Simulation we had to simulate different things such as fire, water and etc to implement into the footage we filmed for Set Capture.
Compositing
This is what I produced for my compositing module at Solent University. Compositing is one of the main things in the VFX industry I’m mainly interested in at the moment, and is something I’d like to improve upon.
Digital Character
This is what I produced for my Digital Character module at Solent University. This module was about sculpting and learning ZBrush, which is a tough program to get into. Througout this project I learned a lot about anatomy and how character artists think.
Year 1
Introduction to VFX
This assignment was one of the most fun to work on. Nuke is something which is incredible to use, and the sheer number of things you can do inside of it is baffling. I definitely feel as if I was able to learn how to use the basic nodes and especially how to use the roto nodes. Personally, I didn’t find it to be as boring as some artists make it to be, but it can definitely be quite a tedious process at times.
Real-time CGI
This module was for learning and understanding the basics on Unreal Engine 4. This is the game I produced for this module.
Architectural Visualization
My final image for my Architectural Visualization module at University. At first I was a bit sceptical about Arch Viz, and how much I would actually learn doing this assignment. However, to my suprise I learned quite a lot. From how to match color/lightness to simulating grass.
I initially underestimated the amount of workload thats actually required and because of that it led to some poor time management and I had to crunch quite a lot towards the deadline.
Introduction to Animation
This is what I did for my Introduction to Animation module in University. This is the first time I’ve ever worked with rigging and animating 3d characters, and it was quite a challenge. Initially I had a clear plan of what I wanted to do, but as I got further into the assignment I was met with a lot of troubleshooting and problems, which led to a result that I’m a bit torn over. I feel as I learned quite a lot about animation and especially how to work with Mocap Data, however the end result isn’t as I had intially planned.
One of the main reasons to that, was that I had a lot of issues with the character model I had found online. I wasn’t able to fix the problems I had with the downloaded character, and as I was so close to the deadline I had to go with one of the rigged models that was provided by the lecturer. Even though the model was well made, it didnt match my scene as well as I’d hoped. I did however try and match is as best as I could, one major change being I re-textured the model completely.
